Dental emergencies while wearing braces fall into two categories: (1) direct injury to the face, mouth or teeth or (2) breakage of orthodontic appliances.
Following a direct injury to your face, mouth or teeth, contact your family dentist as soon as possible. If a tooth has been knocked out, severely displaced or fractured, contact us and your family dentist immediately.
If the orthodontic appliances are dislodged or displaced, we will need to replace or adjust them as soon as possible. An archwire that is broken or irritating the gum or cheek may need to be replaced or adjusted. A bent headgear, facebow or removable appliance that is not fitting well should not be worn until we can properly adjust it at the office. Contact our office as soon as possible.
