Different types of braces

Metal braces are what a lot of people think of when they think of braces, but today’s metal braces have smaller brackets and are less noticeable than braces in the past. With colored ties, metal braces are great for younger children and teens. Click here to learn about the pros and cons of Metal Braces.

Ceramic braces are less noticeable because they have clear or tooth-colored brackets. They feel slightly bulkier than metal braces. They are good for older teens who will take care of them properly. They may be less noticeable, but not when you have food stuck in them or drink something red! Ceramic braces can be more affordable than Invisalign®. Invisalign® is a great option for responsible teens who want the option to take off their braces to eat. They are made as a clear plastic aligner, made up of 18-30 custom-made pieces. Invisalign® is only available to teens and adults. They may be removable, but it’s still important to wear them 99% of the time for them to properly move the teeth. How Long will you have to Wear Braces?

Braces for Kids and TeensEvery treatment plan is different and many factors can contribute to how long you will have to wear braces. One very important factor is how well you take care of your teeth and braces, so make sure to brush and floss! If you wear rubber bands, follow your orthodontist’s instructions!
Dr. Zaki will work with you to create a custom plan for your orthodontic treatment. Some factors he will consider include:

  • The severity of your bite
  • Rotation of teeth
  • Extractions
  • Jaw problems
  • Which way teeth protrude
  • If headgear or other appliances are needed

Dr. Zaki will meet with you and your parent to discuss your needs and concerns. He will then take special x-rays of your teeth and do a comprehensive exam. Dr. Zaki will outline and discuss several options, including details of your treatment, any issues you may have, duration of the treatment, insurance coverage and available financing. You will receive a financial summary sheet, and your treatment plan will be customized to fit your needs and wants along with Dr. Zaki’s recommendations.
